Denville Police Announce Virtual Crime Watch Program

Virtual Crime Watch

The Denville Police Department is excited to announce a new surveillance camera registration program called Virtual Crime Watch. The goal of this program is to create a safer community through a partnership with our residents and business owners. The program is voluntary and your information will be strictly for the use of the Denville Police Department and not shared with anyone else.

With the growing popularity of home and business security camera systems, it is much more likely that criminal activity and/or those responsible for it have been captured on a private security camera system. By registering your security camera system with the Denville Police Department, it will enable our officers and detectives to more easily identify any camera systems that may have captured the criminal activity or those responsible for it either coming into or leaving your neighborhood. The decision to allow a member of the Denville Police Department to view your security camera footage or to provide a copy of the footage to the Department is completely up to you. You are by no means required to provide any footage by registering your security camera system with the Denville Police Department.

If there is an incident in your neighborhood that may have been captured on your security camera system, you will be contacted by a member of the Denville Police Department and requested to allow us to view the footage, or to review the footage on your own, in an attempt to identify any investigative leads. If it is determined that the footage from your surveillance camera system is of any evidential value, you will be requested to provide a copy of the footage to the Denville Police Department for investigative purposes.

If you decide to register your video surveillance camera system with the Denville Police Department, you will receive a Virtual Crime Watch window decal to place on your home or business. In addition, for those neighborhoods registering multiple systems, Virtual Crime Watch signs will be erected in your neighborhood, alerting any would be criminals that their activities are being monitored.  Please help us keep your neighborhoods safe and crime free by registering your surveillance camera system today to help catch the crime and the criminal.  Please return the completed registration form to the Police Department in person or by mail.

Additionally, this program is being sponsored by Morris Security Electronics (973-598-0998 / www.morrissecurity.com), who has agreed to provide security systems at a reduced cost to residents and businesses that take part in Denville's Virtual Crime Watch program (e.g. 2 camera system with a digital recorder for $750.00 or a 4 camera system with a digital recorder for $1,000).
